Rex Holder, Variety Store operator, married Margaret on April 9, in Munday. His father and mother Mrs. D.E. Holder, live in Munday and Mrs. Cretia Brooks, his mother-in-law lives in Spur. He has been a member of the Rotary Club for one year, serving as director. As a grocery helper he earned his first money and bought himself a white woolen sweater. His first real job was in a drug store and he chose to run a variety store because it is the only kind that sells for cash only. For 16 years he managed a chain store. He has learned from other peple to be fair in your business dealings. He likes to play golf for relaxation. He is a Deacon in the Baptist Church, Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Dickens County Disaster program, member of the Ben Franklin Association. Funeral services for Rex Holder, 66, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with church pastor, Rev. Norris Taylor officiating, assisted by Rev. Archie Echols, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Spur and Rev. Charles Carman, pastor of University Christian Church, Lubbock.Mr. Holder died suddenly at his home February 9 about 1:15 a.m. of an apparent heart attack.
A prominent Spur businessman and civic leader, he was a former mayor of Spur and served several years on the City Council. He was also a deacon in the First Baptist church.
He had served as president of the Rotary Club, Lions Club and the Bulldog Booster Club. He was also past president of the Baptist Men´s Brotherhood and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Holder married the former Margaret Brooks in Walters, Oklahoma in 1933. They moved to Spur from Alice in 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Holder, Spur; one son, Jimmy Rex Holder, Lubbock; his mother, Mrs. Mary Holder, Dallas; one brother, Doss Holder, Dallas; Two grandsons, Monty and Bryon also survive.
Pallbearers included R.A. Conner, James Wright, Lynn Buzbee, Everett Martin, Ransom Gallaway, Jack Kennedy; Don Ferguson and Winston Blacklock.
Honorary pallbearers included deacons of the Baptist Church.
Burial was in the Spur Cemetery.

Services for Margaret B. Holder will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Rev. John Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in the Spur Cemetery in Spur. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.Margaret died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in Lubbock. She was born in Canton, Texas, and graduated from Rule High School in Rule in Haskell County in 1930. She attended Hardin Simmons University, Stephen F. Austin University, Washington Lee University, and the University of Hawaii.
Margaret married Rex L. Holder on April 9, 1933. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1979. She and her husband owned and operated Holder's Ben Franklin for 20 years in Spur. She taught speech in Nacogdoches, Coleman and Alice, Texas. She worked for West Texas Utilities in Spur until retiring in 1977. Margaret moved to Lubbock in 1980 where she was active in the Lubbock Women's Club, Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, New Neighbor's Club, News Commerce Club, Metropolitan Club and the Downtown Bible Class. She taught the Dorcas Bible class for 15 years at Highland Baptist Church and served as a Shepherd in the Downtown Bible Class of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Jimmie Holder and wife Fran; grandsons, Monte Rex Holder and wife De'Lila, and Bryan Holder and wife Holly; and great-granddaughter, Alli Holder. All are of Lubbock. The family requests memorials to South Plains Food Bank.
