Mrs. D.G. Hisey Injured Falling From Car

Recently Mrs. Dan Hisey was severely injured in falling from a care, being injured on the head, dislocating an arm at the elbow and spraining a hand. She was with Fred Hisey and family who were returning from a fishing trip to Blanco Canyon and in coming down the Cap Rock Mrs. Hisey intended to get out of the car and walk down However, in getting out of the car it gave a lurch throwing Mrs. Hisey to the ground with the above results, and from the injuries she was unconscious several hours, but able to walk into the house upon their arrival home. At this time we are glad to note that Mrs. Hisey is reported doing nicely.

Obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we are this week called upon to chronicle the death of a friend and fellow citizen that of Uncle Dan Hisey, which occurred Friday, Dec. 11th at his home near Spur. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church, interment immediately following with Masonic honors.

D.G. Hisey was born in Missouri, November 30, 1849, soon after his marriage with his faithful wife, who survives him, they came to Texas, and in the early days settled in Hunt County, later removing to Haskell county where they lived for years, rearing a family of children who are now recognized as among the best citizens of the country. Soon after the opening of Spur Farm Lands to settlement and the establishment of Spur, Mr. and Mrs. Hisey and family moved here and have continuously resided here since about 1910.

Uncle Dan Hisey was a substantial and loyal citizen, a typical westerner and true to his friends. He had only been sick a few weeks when death came to relieve his sufferings. Whatever there may be in the future, we know Uncle Dan Hisey has earned and will occupy a bright place in the great Beyond.

His children were all here to attend the funeral, among whom were Kim Hisey of Stamford, Mrs. Effie Post of Waco, Wes Hisey of Amarillo and Fred Hisey and Mrs. Myrtle Gaines who live here. Among the old time friends from a distance who came were Tom Ballard and Wayne Perry and family of Haskell, and Ralph Keaton and family of Post in Haskell County, Mrs. Post will remain for awhile with her mother, brothers and sister, Mrs. Gaines, before returning to her home in Waco.

Mrs. Mariah M. Hisey, 80, was found dead at her home in Spur Friday at noon, Nov. 9. She was found by her grandson on his return from school and had apparently fallen from a sudden heart attack since she had a comb and a spool of thread in her hands and it is supposed had been sewing and attending to duties as usual.

Mrs. Post, a daughter of Mrs. Hisey, who had been here from Waco for a visit had left earlier in the morning for her home, and Miss Dorothy Hisey, a granddaughter who had also been with her for a visit had also left earlier in the morning for Lubbock where she is attending school, and the aged woman was alone when the attack occurred.

Mrs. Hisey was born in Lincoln County, MO, January 16, 1864 and would have been 81 years of age her next birthday. She was married to Dan G. Hisey in MO on July 14, 1871. Some 56 years ago they moved to East Texas and in 1889 moved to Haskell County where they resided until coming to Dickens County in 1911 where they made their home until Mr. Hiseys death, Dec.11, 1925. Since his death Mrs. Hisey has made her home with relatives at Waco, and Roaring Springs but for the principal part of the time in this community.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 Saturday at the First Baptist Church of which denomination Mrs. Hisey had been a member since a young woman, and were conducted by Rev. J.V. Bilberry, and Campbell undertakers directed the funeral and interment was made in Spur Cemetery.

Surviving are four sons: Kim and Fred of this community, Wes of Amarillo, and H. of Haskell; one daughter, Mrs. Post of Waco; and a son-in-law, Joe Gaines of Matador. All of the children and their families were present for the services.

Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Commie Hisey, Callas Hisey, Jack Rogers and Thos. Cauthen of Spur; Carlon Gaines of Matador, and P.G. Hisey of Amarillo.

Flower girls were granddaughters of Mrs. Hisey; Misses Dorothy, Roberta, Billie Burke and Helen Hisey of Spur; and Miss Ruby Hisey of Haskell.
