Rites Held for Luther Hindman

Luther Alexander Hindman, long time resident of Spur and Dickens County, was buried Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. May 7.

The funeral service was held in the First Baptist Church of Spur with Rev. C. Melvin Ratheal and Rev. T.B. Allen officiating.

Hindman was born in Arkansas on February 13, 1883 and in 1910 moved to Dickens County. He was married to Maggie Parks in Levelland on May 23, 1943.

At a very early age Hindman was converted to the Christian religion and joined the Baptist Church.

He was employed by Godfrey and Smart as a car salesman for a number of years before moving to a farm southeast of Spur.

Survivors include his wife, three sons, Jack, Dial, and Dick; stepson, L.D. Parks of Ft. Worth; three sisters Etta Stewart of Snyder, Ora Stewart of Edgewood, Mayme Cockrell of Losa; four brothers: Emmett, Press, Willie and Herman and six grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were Oscar Kelly, Bob Westerman, Joe Jeffers, Alton Foreman, Clarence Watters, Lloyd Hindman, Ollie Hindman and Clarence Foreman. Honorary pallbearers were W.F Godfrey, E.L. Carraway, Charlie Kearney, V.C. Smart, Willie Bell, Carl Proctor, Lawis Lee, Martin Turbyfill, H.J. Parks and A.Z. Hays. Interment was held in Spur Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
