Last rites for J.R. Hill, 66, were read Saturday, May 4 at the Baptist Church at 4 p.m. with Rev. J.V. Bilberry officiating.Pallbearers were: O.P. Meador, Sol Thomas, Sr., W.K. Walker, C.N. Kidd, S.E. Boothe and E.A. Bailey.
Flower bearers: Mildred and Margaret Davenport, Bobbie Lou Morris, Lois Rape, Melba Robinett, Marie Odom, and Velma Kimmel.
Interment was in Spur Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
J.R. Hill was born April 27, 1874 in Alabama. When five years of age he moved with his parents and other children to Texas, first settling in Parker county and later moving to San Saba county.
On August 23, 1892 he was married to Miss Ida Huddleston of San Saba. To this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters. One son died in infancy.
From San Saba, Mr. Hill with his wife and small children returned to Parker county and from there to Brown county and on to Stonewall county. Later moving to Dickens county and settling near Gilpin, moving from there to Redland, NM and back to Dickens county in 1915, living at Twin Wells until three years ago and then moving to Spur where they have lived since that time.
Mr. Hill passed away at 6:10 a.m. Friday morning, just after rising. He apparently had been feeling as well as usual and his death was a complete surprise to the family.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Hill of Spur; and sons, M.Y. Hill, Spur; M.O. Hill, Winslow, AZ; R.D. Hill, Logan, NM; A.L. Hill, Spur; and daughters, Mrs. Hall W. Cutler, Lamesa, TX; Mrs. Rubin Weddell, Spur; Mrs. P.W. Bailey, Lovington, NM and a host of other friends and relatives.
Among those from out of town to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Haynes and family of Muleshoe.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 14, in he First Baptist Church for Mrs. John Riley Hill, 79. She died in the home of her son, Rev. R. D. Hill, here Tuesday morning, July 13, 1954.Rev. Wayne Drizzle, retired minister from Crosbyton, officiated, assisted by Rev. J. E. Lee and Rev. H. L. Burnam.
Mrs. Hill, who was born in San Saba County, is survived by four sons, M. Y. of Aspermont, R. D. of Spur, A. L. of Abilene and Milton O. of Oregon; three daughters, Mrs. H. W. Cutler of Lamesa and Mrs. Rube Widdell ad Mrs. P. W. Bailey, both of Spur; a sister, Mrs. V. Adams of Spur; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
