John Hazlewood, 79, constable for precinct three for the past two years and a longtime resident of Spur, was found dead at his home Tuesday morning about 8:15. He apparently suffered a heart attack while dressing.Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Rev. W.L. Kite officiating, assisted by Rev. R. D. Hill.
Born in West Point, MS, Mr. Hazlewood came to Dickens County and Spur in 1912. He was a wagon freighter for many years and helped haul in the many electric transformers that Dickens County Electric used on their line system over the county.
Mr. Hazlewood married the former Loraine Roswell Dec. 17, 1916.
Survivors include one son, John Hazlewood, Jr., Abilene and one daughter, Mrs. John Carlisle, Lubbock; one sister, Mrs. Eula Mae Hudson, West Point, MS and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lawis Lee, Jim Bridge, R.J. Self, Ralph Sherill, Glen Smith and J.R. Whitmire.
Interment was in Spur cemetery.

Services were held in the First United Methodist Church June 1, 1991 at 4 p.m. for Allie Loraine Hazlewood, 93. Rev. Genoa Goad, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Spur Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.She died about 4:30 p.m. on May 30 in St. Mary of te Plains Hospital, Lubbock, following a brief illness. She was born September 13, 1897 in Elliott, Texas. She had made her home in Spur since 1913. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.
She married John Hazlewood on December 20, 1916 in Spur. He died January 24, 1962. One son, John Jr. preceded her in death in 1975. A daughter, LeFern Carlisle, also died in 1979.
She is survived by one brother, Joe Mitchell, Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Olive Robertson, Grand Prairie; several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Pallbearers included John Hazlewood, Joe Hazlewood, A.L. Deathrage, Andy Deathrage, Michael Chambers and Wes Cummings.
