Obituary

Mrs. Aubrey Havens, 59, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at a hospital in Temple. She had been in failing health for the past two months.

Final rites will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Wayne Grizzle will officiate, assisted by Rev. Otis Testerman, pastor, and Rev. Tommy Conaway, Kalgary.

Nettie Gilmore Havens was bornin this area and belonged to one of the oldest families of the Kalgary community. Her father, the late Jim Gilmore, came to work for the old Spur Ranch in 1888.

She is survived by her husband; two children: Leon Havens, Kalgary; Mrs. Odel (Nina) Wilson, Odessa; four sisters, Mrs. Elvie Zinn, Duncan, Okla.; Mellie Findley, California; Thelma Brooks, Tatum, New Mex.; Rosa Nell Burndant, Beeville; three brothers; Lon Gilmore, Crosbyton; Tom Gilmore, Kalgary; Alfred Gilmore, Oregon; two grandchildren.

Burial will be in Spur Cemetery. King Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Aubrey J. Havens, a longtime Kalgary resident before moving to Crosbyton in 1964, was pronounced dead about 4 p.m. Saturday at Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. He had suffered a sudden illness at his home.

Mr. Havens was 82.

Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church of Crosbyton. The Rev. Otis Pierce of Kalgary and the Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor, officiated.

Interment was made in Spur Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Born April 19, 1899 in Texas, Mr. Havens moved to Kalgary as a boy from Young County, TX in 1915. He was a farmer and rancher prior to his retirement.

Aubrey J. Havens and the former Nettie Gilmore were married in November 1921 at Kalgary. She preceded her husband in death Oct. 3, 1962.

Mr. Havens married Lela Donaldson on March 3, 1965 in Gatesville.

Survivors include his wife, Lela of Crosbyton; one son, Leon Havens of Kalgary; one brother, Elmer Havens of Littlefield; two sisters, Julia Vowlis of Wichita Falls and Lillie West of Hearne; two grandchildren, Warren Wayne Wilson and Annette Idell; and one great grandchild.

One daughter preceded Mr. Havens in death at birth and another daughter, Nina Kathryn Wilson, died in 1969.
