Funeral services were held Sunday in the First Methodist Church for William Kester Harvey, 74. Rev. William McReynolds officiated and was assisted by Rev. John Jenkins, pastor of the First Baptist Church.Mr. Harvey died at the home following a lengthy illness. He was a farmer. Born in Atala, Alabama in 1889, he came to Dickens County in 1914. He married Lela Slaton in 1918 and they made their first home in the Soldier Mound community. He had lived in Spur since 1941. He was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, A.J. Harvey, Spur; and W.K. Harvey, Jr. Houston; two daughters, Polly Dempsey, Lubbock and Mary Randall, Okla City, OK; two brothers, George Harvey, Lubbock; and T.A. Harvey, McAdoo; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Neeley, Lubbock; Mrs. Jeppie Johnston, Amarillo; Mrs. Bessie Bates Houston and Mrs. Grace Rinehart, Houston. Six grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers included J.D. Taylor, Raymond Powell, Geroge Nalley, R.G. Bostic, Cecil Caplinger and Willard Williams.
Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Spur (Special) Services for Lela S. Harvey, 83, of Spur will be at 5 p.m. today in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Allsup, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church.Burial will be in Spur Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harvey, a native of Red River County, died at 3 a.m. Thursday in West Texas Hospital in Lubbock after a short illness.
She married William K. Harvey in 1917 in Dickens, where she lived most of her life. He died in 1963. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include two sons, William K. Jr. of Austin and A.J. of Lubbock; two daughters, Polly Dempsey of Lubbock and Mary Randell of Oklahoma City, OK; three brothers, Wilmer and Arnold Slaton, both of Lubbock, and Ben Slaton of Granbury; six sisters, Gillie Heard and Ollie Belle Cato, both of Lubbock. Tona Spear of Spur; Chloe Sims of Eunice, NM; Icie Bethel of Slaton and Peggy Stewart of Bradyville, Iowa;
