R.J. Hairgrove, 69, Dickens Co. pioneer, died Sunday at a Dallas hospital of complications following a major operation performed at that place about six weeks ago.The body was brought overland to Spur in a Campbell Funeral Home hearse.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Spur, 4 p.m., Monday, May 25, with Pastor, H.L. Thurston, officiating.
Pallbearers were W.F. Foreman, Ivy McMahan, B. Rogers, Loyd Hindman, Jim Smith and R.J. Bell.
Flower bearers were Mrs. Ethel Draper, Ila Ruth Draper, Evelyn Copeland, Ruby Stanley, Jessie Hindman and Lurlene Cherry.
Interment under direction of Campbell Funeral Chapel was made in Spur Cemetery.
Robert Jackson Hairgrove, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hairgrove, was born in 1873 near Moulton, Lavaca County, TX.
He was married to Callie York at Moulton, TX. Feb. 22, 1893. Some 30 years ago he was converted and affiliated with the Methodist Church and at the time of his death he was a member of Foreman´s Chapel.
With his wife and children, Mr. Hairgrove came to Dickens County in 1912 and has resided here since.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Callie York Hairgrove; two sons: Dee of Spur and Emmett of Levelland; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grands. Four brothers: Albert, Eugene, Ernest, Hugh and a sister, Mrs. C. J. Crouch of Hemstead.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist Church for Mrs. Callie Hairgrove, 88. Rev. W.D. McReynolds officiated, and was assisted by Rev. Kenneth Hairgrove, Presho, S.D.Mrs. Hairgrove died at her home December 3. She had been a resident of Dickens County since 1911. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Hairgrove in 1942. She was a member of Foreman´s Chapel Methodist church.
Survivors include one son, Emmett Hairgrove, Parker, AZ; one brother, Ike York, Portland, TX; two sisters, Mrs. T.C. Cherry, Spur and Mrs. Fannie Kuhen, Moulton, TX.
Seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers were Fred Hairgrove, Lloyd Hindman, S.C. Reynolds, Joe Draper, Logan Singleton, O.L. Kelley and Estle Hairgrove.
Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.
