Jane Katherine Godfrey, 91, passed away on Jan. 19, 2010 in Ft. Worth. She was born on Dec. 26, 1918, in Dallas, Texas, to William Fike and Katherine Godfrey.

Jane graduated from Spur High School in 1936. She graduated from Texas Tech in 1940 with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics and then went on to teach at the high school in Caddo, Texas. During World War II, she worked for the Dallas County Chapter of the American Red Cross. In 1950, Jane received a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education at Texas Tech University and went back to teaching at Austin High School in El Paso, Texas; Lockett High School in Vernon, Texas; and, Arnett, McWhorter and Hodges Elementary Schools, in Lubbock. She taught in the Texas school system for 34 years in all.

Jane was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Naomi Godfrey; her niece, Jan Pierpont; and her nephew, David Godfrey.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Spur Memorial Cemetery, with Rev. Rory Mosley officiating, under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.
