Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church for Gaines Cecil Godfrey, 60, who was killed in an automobile wreck early Sunday morning near Clarksville.

Rev. Howard Marcom officiated.

A former owner of Godfrey Furniture Co., in Spur, Mr. Godfrey was in the real estate business at the time of his death. A veteran of WWII, he had been a resident of Spur since 1938. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Spur; one daughter, Ann, Spur; two brothers, Burl, Fort Worth and Hollis, Dallas; one sister, Mrs. Nick Suchfu, Lubbock.

Pallbearers were Fred Neaves, Dan Karr, Melvin Mason, Buzz Thacker, Verlon Bigham and Martin Pope.

Interment was in the Spur cemetery.

Graveside services for Julia Godfrey, 97, of Spur were held Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the Spur Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial was under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Godfrey was born July 6, 1906 to Hugh (Jack) and Leonora McClure Luckett in Motley Co. She was a graduate of Baylor University. She married Cecil Godfrey. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1969. Mrs. Godfrey was a teacher in Roaring Springs, San Angelo and Spur. She also served as Librarian at Spur elementary. She was bookkeeper for Godfrey Furniture in Spur for many years. She retired at age 70. She was a Sunday School teacher at First United Methodist Church in Spur, for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Godfrey of Humble; her granddaughter Emily Yeager of Chicago, Illinois and her father, Gary Yeager; 2 nieces; Leadell Martin of Matador and Julia Marie Matusch of Colorado; and 2 nephews, Carter and Jack M. Luckett both of Matador.
