Garner Services Held Saturday
Funeral services for Odessa Garner were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Garner died instantly last Thursday when the station wagon in which she was riding struck the rear of a heavily loaded truck near Nocona. Also injured in the wreck were Lester Garner, his daughter, Oma Lee, Garner's sister, Mrs. Fred Plummer, and her two children, Judy and Wayne.
The accident occurred as Garner attempted to pass a truck on U.S. 82 four miles east of Nocona. As the Garner vehicle moved into the left lane, the truck began a left turn. The Garner car then swung into the road, scraping heavily into the rear of the truck. The entire left side of the car was removed. Mrs. Garner was killed as she sat immediately behind her husband.
Rev. Riley Fugitt officiated. He was assisted by Rev. Cal C. Wright, rev. Tommie Strother, Bob Copeland and Rev. Vernon Hagar.
Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Oma Lee and three step-sons: Thural, Drennon and Dewey. A sister, and two brothers, Amel and Arnold Long and her mother Lora Long of Hereford.
Campbell's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
