Robert (Bill) and Lizzie Gannon came to Spur in 1916 from Young County, Texas. They were born in Young County as well as four of their children. The other 8 were born in Dickens County, 5 boys and 7 girls in all. They came to Spur because they thought they had an opportunity to make a better living. Bill Gannon was a farmer and rancher and cotton was his main crop.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon Jan. 27, for William Robert "Bill" Gannon at 2:30 at the First Baptist Church in Spur. Rev. H. P. Parks, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. L. R. Pendley.
Gannon, a widely known farmer and rancher of Dickens and Kent Counties, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 8:55 a.m. at his home in Spur.
He was born November 10, 1887 in Denton County and was united in marriage to Elizabeth Abbott November, 1907. He was converted and joined the Baptist Church at an early age.
Gannon, who came to this county in 1916, had been ill and confined to his bed for approximately thirteen months.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Smith, Ab Smith, Jay Austin, Melvin Adams, Bailey Kimmel, Jim Wyatt, R. T. Anglin, W. W. Garner, Clyde McDonald, John King, Sr., A. M. Hoover, J. E. Berry, Sr., "Bab" Berry and Oscar Kelley.
Interment will be in the Spur Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gannon; seven daughters, Mrs. Ora Baker of Plainview, Mrs. Dora Finch of Porterville, CA, Mrs. Virginia Dodson of Carlsbad, NM, Mrs. Mae Bingham of Amarillo, Mrs. Thelma Fletcher of Brownwood, Mrs. Lucille Wyatt of Spur, and Mrs. Winnie Ellis of Spur; four sons, Buck of Monahans, Pete and Sam of Spur, and Elmer of Goodland, KS; six sisters, Mrs. Minnie Clifton of Littlefield, Mrs. Martha Wormack of Sunnyvale, CA, Mrs. Amy Dell Shirley of Graham, Mrs. Minnie Bel Tandy of Carlsbad, NM, Mrs. Beulah Mortenson of Long Beach, CA, and Mrs. Eula Mae Yarborough of Sunnyvale, CA; one brother, Arthur of Mountainview, CA; twenty grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

SPUR Services are scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Lizzie Gannon, 87, a resident here since 1939.
Officiating will be the Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Spur Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gannon died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in MD Nursing Home here after an extended illness.
A native of Bosque County, Tex., she married the late William R. Gannon in November 1907 in Olney. The couple moved to Dickens County in 1916, and moved to Kent County in 1932. Mrs. Gannon was a member of the First Baptist Church here. She had lived in Spur since 1951.
Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Ora Dell Baker, Mrs. Virginia Stumbo, Mrs. Winnie Ellis and Mrs. Lucille Wyatt, all of Spur, Mrs. Dora Bell Finch of Porterville, Calif., Mrs. Mae Bingham of Yorktown, Ind. and Mrs. Betty Thelma Fletcher of Brownwood; four sons, Pete of Spur, Sam of Post, Billy of Goodland, Kan. and Arthur of Odessa; a brother, Oscar Abbott of Olney; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Simpson of Lubbock, Mrs. Dixie Davidson of Graham and Mrs. Alice Heard of Olney; 25 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
