Littlefield accident kills 65-year-old

A 65-year-old woman died late Sunday in Littlefield after police say a pickup driver ran a stop sign and slammed into her vehicle.

Bebe Castillo Galindo of Littlefield was taken to a Littlefield hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time after the 9:30 p.m. crash, said Littlefield Police Chief Abel Cantu.

Dora Tijerina, 55, a passenger in Galindo's car, was seriously injured and rushed to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

Cantu said the pickup driver, James Bates, 74, was eastbound on Texas 54 when it appeared he failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and slammed into Galindo's car, which was traveling west on Loop 430.

She did not have a stop sign.

The crash remains under investigation.
