Personal

Biography

I, George Edwin Erath, was born October 15, 1912 in Dickens County to George Bernard Erath (11/23/1886 - 6/10/1961) and Jessie Lenora Randall (4/20/1893 - 1/15/1985).

I graduated from Spur High School with the class of 1931 and on March 9, 1938 married Grace Beatrice Patterson in Spur.

Gracie was born December 11, 1917 in Jayton, Kent County, Texas. We have one daughter, Linda Nell Erath Jackson, born December 28, 1938, and she has two daughters: Sherri and Denice. Linda lives in Lubbock, Texas.

My grandfathers, William Merrell Randall and Walter Erath, and my great-grandfather, George Barnard Erath surveyed Erath County and McLennan County (Waco). I have the sword my great-grandfather, G.B. Erath used in the battle of San Jacinto when Texas won its independence. Gracie and I lived on the farm for many years, but now own our home on West Harris Street in Spur.

Two other children were born to George Barnard and Jessie Erath: a daughter, Leila Lee, who married Raymond Bailey and they had three daughters: JoAnn, Margaret and Lillian Grace; and a son, Walter M. Erath who never married and died in 1982 at the age of 60. Leila Lee and Raymond are both deceased - Raymond in 1980 and Leila Lee in 1984. All our family members who are deceased are buried in Spur Memorial Cemetery.
