Biography

T.C. Elkins was born August 3, 1900 to Douglas and Elizabeth Elkins in Strawn, Texas. He started school in Santo, Texas, and finished in Sharps Valley in Palo Pinto County, Texas. As many of the pioneer families of Texas, he finished his education at an early age to go to work and help support the family. He worked in the Cedar Breaks until going to work in the oil fields where he worked until he was 19. He met and married Lois Lorain White on October 11, 1919 with the Justice of the Peace of Strawn, Texas officiating.

Lois Lorain White was born to Ben and Donna White on September 23, 1903. She attended Strawn schools until she finished.

T.C. worked in the oil fields in Lamoore, Colorado, and then went to work for Barrett Brothers Hardware in Anson, Texas until they came to Spur to make their home in 1932. He went to work for Clayton & Smith Plumbing Co. for 3 years then started plumbing independently. On August 21, 1920 they had their first son, Floyd Chester, then on September 18, 1924 their second son, Alfred Lee was born. T.C. and his sons worked in partnership in Spur Plumbing for years until his retirement due to health in 1975.

T.C. and Lois have seen Spur grow from dirt streets and open plains to our fair community in which they still reside with their son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
