Funeral services for Joseph Douglas Elkins, 75, who died Saturday, February 21, in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dot Dickerson of Graham were held in the First Methodist Church of Spur Monday morning, February 23, with Rev. L.L.Hill reading the last rites.The deceased was born in Hill County, December 17, 1873, was the son of Mr. And Mrs. W.M. Elkins. He lived his entire life in Texas, was married to Miss Margaret Elizabeth Gilliland, July, 1897, in Hill County. Eight children were born to this union. He came to Spur in 1921 where he has lived until three years ago, when due to ill health he moved to Graham, Texas where he was living at the time of his death.
He was well known in Spur, where he leaves many friends to regret his passing.
Survivors are his wife, five sons, C.D. Elkins, Blanton Elkins, T.C. Elkins, W.C. Elkins and W.W. Elkins; three daughters, Mrs. Georgie George, Mrs. Minnie Brown, and Mrs. Dot Dickerson; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Tucker, Mrs. C.A. Chesnut and Mrs. D.B. Ince; also 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Robert Elkins, Alfred Lee Elkins, Floyd Elkins, Richard Elkins, Jake Elkins and Leland Wilson.
Chandler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.
