Obituary

SPUR — Marcy Denson, 87, of Fort Worth, and mother of an Abilene woman, died at 11:03 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Spur.

The Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of First Baptist Church in Spur, will officiate. Burial will be in Spur Cemetery, directed by Campbell Funeral Home.

Born in 1894 in Comanche, she married C.A. (Ott) Denson in May, 1913, in Rochester. He died in May, 1963. They had lived in Spur for more than 50 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Frank (Sylvia) Pilley of Bakersville, CA; Ottie Maye Scott of Three Fountain Apts. in Abilene; Mrs. E.J. (Eunice) Burt of 1941 Poplar in Abilene, and Mrs. Billy (Cleo) Hahn of Post; three sons, Charles A. Jr. of Fort Worth, Morris of Eunice, NM and Rex Denson of Dallas; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the First Baptist Church for Charles Arthur (Ott) Denson, a retired Spur rancher and farmer. Mr. Denson died Thursday morning, May 2, at his home.

Rev. W.L. Kite officiated at the service, assisted by Rev. Billy Smith, Lubbock and Rev. Victor Crabtree.

Born in Llano County in 1884, Mr. Denson first came to Dickens County in 1915. He was an old-time cowboy. He was 78 years old. Mr. Denson married the former Mary L. Brown in Haskell in 1913. The couple resided at Dry Lake during their early married years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Spur; three sons, Morris, Lamesa; Rex, Lubbock; and C.A., Ft. Worth; four daughters, Mrs. Frank Pilley, Richmond, CA; Mrs. C.D. Scott, Eunice, NM; Mrs. Billy Hahn, Post; and Mrs. C.O. Barley, San Antonio, and Mrs. J.M. Hickman, Aspermont. 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survive.

Pallbearers included Guy Merriman, Ted Smith, Claude Swaringen, J.E. Bachman, T.C. Sandlin, Jr., Billy Ray Ballard, J.B. Morrison, Jr., and Lester English.

Interment was in Spur Cemetery.
