Services Held For Virgil Dement
Funeral services for John Virgil Dement, 51, were held at the Spur Church of Christ, Friday. July 5, at 3 p.m. Mr. J. H. Miles, pastor officiated at the services.Mr. Dement who lives in Lubbock died at the home of a niece, Mrs. J. O. Adcock of Spur after an illness of 19 days.
A short service was held at the Adcock home, for relatives and close friends. Rev. J. C. Ramsey, minister of the Presbyterian Church officiated before the church services.
Pallbearers were W. M. McCombs, W.T. Wilson, D.W. Stanley, R. L. Pearson, and W.P.Perser, of Lubbock. Flower bearers were Mrs. Mamie Thomas, Mrs. S. E. Boothe, Mrs. D. W. Stanley, and Mrs. Bird. Interment was made in Spur cemetery, Burton Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
John Virgil Dement was born at Mt. Pleasant, in Titus County, TX in September of 1888. He came to Dickens Co. in 1925, and made his home in the Wilson Draw community for a number of years.
He was married to Maude Murray at Mt. Pleasant on Aug. 29, 1909. Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom survive him. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maude Dement, two sons, Harold of Lubbock and Virgil of Clovis, NM; and five daughters: Mrs. Norman Wilson, of Clovis; Mrs. Robert Bilberry of Lingo, NM; Mrs. Loran Deering of Lubbock; Mrs. Birdie Stanley of Spur and Geraldine Dement of Lubbock. Also surviving are a brother, Glen of Oklahoma City, OK and 3 sisters: Mrs. A. Agan, Mrs. Bob Mason and Mrs. C. Cravey, Lubbock.
