Funeral services for Hardy Allen Dement, 46, who died June 1 in Lordsburg, NM, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Hwy. 70 Church of Christ with minister Bob Willie officiating, assisted by Robert Williams.
An employee of a Dickens service station, Dement had been a life-long resident of Dickens County. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Alvina Dement, Dickens; four daughters, Mrs. Marion Edwards, Tucson, AZ; Mrs. Syble K. Greer, Spur; Mrs. Polly Head, Charleston, SC; one son, William L. Dement, Lubbock. Other survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dement, Spur; six sisters, Mrs. Geeneta McAllister, Dickens; Mrs. Patsy Lee, Las Vegas, NM; Mrs. Maezelle Hammock, Charleston, SC; Mrs. Rita Brendle, Mrs. Janice Kearney and Mrs. Rosa Jones, all of Lubbock; two brothers, Dewey Dement, Brownfield and Douglas Dement, Lewisville; 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Don Hill, Bob Porter, Marion Jordan, Doug Hinson, Hilton Moore and Buddy Hoover. Honorary pallbearers included Sam Porter, Russell Williams, Faye Slough, Wallace Day, S.E. Braly and Speedy Gibson. Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Syble Alvina Dement, 86 of Shallowater, Texas, went to be with our Lord and Savior Aug. 28, 2013. Born in Red Mud, Texas July 29, 1927 to Lloyd and Carrie Evans. She graduated from Spur High School with honors and married Hardie Dement of Spur, Texas May 10, 1947.
She was a devoted wife and mother of five children, Marian Joyce (Rusty) Lemmon, William Lloyd (Rowdy) and Evelyn Dement, Syble Kay Dement, Polly Lynn and Donald Taylor, Linda Sue and Carter Day.
She is survived by her children and her sisters Jennell Arnold , Carolyn Lee, Betty Mae and husband Gene Walthall, and sister-in-law Mayumi Evans. Her legacy will endure for many generations with 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Syble also cherished her faithful little dog Sugar for 14 years.
Syble is preceded in death by her husband Hardie Allen Dement and her parents Lloyd and Carie Evans.
Visitation will be Thursday August 29, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Texas. Services celebration of her life will be Friday. August 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hwy 70 Church of Christ in Spur, Texas with Tommy Henderson officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Tx. Interment will follow at the Spur Memorial Cemetery in Spur, Texas.
