Obituary

Mrs. J. Anderson Davis died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. M. Henson, at old Davis homestead four miles northeast of Spur, following a protracted illness and declining years, her remains being interred Monday afternoon at 3:30 o´clock in Spur Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was the wife of J. Anderson Davis who died here several years ago, and who was a prominent citizen during his life. Members of the Davis family have resided here since soon after the establishment of Spur, each of whom are leading citizens and business men and highly esteemed.

Tom Smith and wife and Jack Davis and wife, of Sour Lake, and Jess and Cal Davis of Hearne, Bill Davis of Sagerton, and Dan and Clyde Davis of Roaring Springs, all sons and daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. Anderson Davis, were here last week to attend the funeral of their father who died following a very brief illness of acute indigestion. All the children, except one deceased daughter, are living and were present at the funeral, the deceased daughter being Mrs. Josie Mitchell who died and was buried in Spur in 1914. We considered J. Anderson Davis one of our best friends. He was a solid, substantial citizen, and always met his friends with a smile and word of encouragement. We will miss as well as mourn his departure from this life among us.
