Mrs. Davis was sixty-five years of age, and had been suffering for sometime of gall stones. She came here from Oklahoma during the Christmas season and had been making her home since that time with her son, R. P. Davis and family. She leaves nine children, seven of whom were at the bedside at the time of the mother's death.

Davis-Mrs. J. E. Davis, daughter of J. P. Kellam, was born in Washington County, Arkansas, Feb. 16, 1854. When a child she came with her parents to Texas and practically all her early life was spent at San Marcos. At about 14 years of age she was converted and joined the Methodist Church. Her education was received in San Marcos. On Nov 6, 1873, she was married to J. E. Davis who, with eight children survives to mourn her death. These facts only give an outline of her life, and much might be said concerning her consecration and devotion to the Church. From the early days of her life and especially in her home Christianity reigned supreme. Many times was her life and home blessed by those ministers who, in early days traveled the work within the bounds of which she lived. And many times no doubt were these same messengers of God blessed by her prayers and life. She has now been called to the place of reward for God's faithful servants. And while we mourn with her loved ones in this sad hour, we also rejoice with them in the assurance that she was a child of God.
