Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning in the Spur Church of Christ for Tom C. Cooner, 81. Vernon Williams church minister, and Cleston Pritchett, officiating.Retired at the time of his death, Mr. Cooner had taught singing for about 50 years. He died in Spur Memorial Hospital at 11:05 p.m. on Sunday. He married the former Bessie Boykin in Dickens in 1925. He came to Dickens County in 1922. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, one son, W.B. Cooner, Vernon; and grandson, Jimmy Paronto, Spur.
Pallbearers were O.L. Kelley, M.C. Rankin, William Starcher, Guy Goen, John Moss and Earl Thomason.
Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.
