Obituary

Funeral services for Ira Sidney Clower, 51, longtime Dickens County resident, were held Thursday, June 30, 1949, in the First Methodist Church, with Rev. Conrad Ryan of Groom officiating, assisted by Rev. M.J. Morton.

Clower was born February 1, 1898 in Whitt, Texas. In 1923 he married Gracy Webb in Perrin, Texas and they made their home in Dickens County for 21 years. Clower died Wednesday morning in a Crosbyton hospital.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Ira S. Clower, Jr. of Spur; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Smith of Spur and Mrs. Doris Kirvy of Franklin, La.; two brothers, C.A. of Jean, Texas and John H. of Whitt; four sisters, Mrs. D.K. Davis, Folsom, N.M., Mrs Julia Biggers, Perrin, Mrs. Mary Hayes, Jean, Texas, and Mrs. Fannie Renfro, Perrin. 2 grandchildren, Catherine Smith and Ka?y Kirby, also survive.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Services for Gracy May Clower, 88, Lamesa, formerly of Dickens were at 3 p.m. August 12, 1991 in the First United Methodist Church, Spur, with Rev. C.L. Atkinson, pastor of the Afton Baptist Church and Rev. Kenneth Kirk, Spur FUMC pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Clower died about 6:35 p.m. August 10 in Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, following a lengthy illness. She was born May 16, 1903 in Tarrant County. She lived in Dickens County most of her life but moved to Lamesa three years ago. She was a farmer and homemaker.

She married Ira Sidney Clower on December 2, 1923 in Whitt, Texas. He died in June of 1949. She taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Ira Clower, Lamesa; a daughter, Louise Smith, Canyon; one brother, Edd Webb, Spur; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.
