S.L. "Fayette" Cherry, 77, early settler of Dickens county , passed away at this home in the Antelope community Wednesday, November 20. Mr. Cherry had been paralyzed for forty odd years, having been confined to a wheelchair fifteen years ago, and in bed most of the last eight years.Samuel Lafayette Cherry, was born in Keechi, De Sota Parish, Louisiana, January 15, 1863. Soon after the close of the Civil War, the Cherry family moved to Gonzales, Texas where "Fayette" grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Mattie Ann White, of Flatonia, Texas, December 22, 1891.
Mr. And Mrs. Cherry and their two children, Eddie Lynn and A.H. (Bert), moved to Dickens County in 1911, settling in the Antelope community where they have lived since.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Thursday, November 21, at 2:00p.m. Rev. J.V. Bilberry and Rev. J.C. Ramsay officiating. Interment was made in the Spur Cemetery, Campbell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are: the widow, Mrs. Mattie Ann Cherry; one son, A.H. Cherry, Spur; one daughter, Mrs. Eddie Lynn Yandell, Jayton: two brothers, W.P. (Uncle Bill) Cherry, and T.G. Cherry, Spur: Three sisters, Miss Eulah Cherry, Spur: Mrs. Ruby Sockwell, Spofford, Texas; and Mrs. Fannie May Sockwell of Moulton, Texas; three grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Edgar McClellan, Malcom Brasher, Clayton Willis, Tom Rape, John Willis and Bascom Rape.

With the death of Mattie Ann Cherry, 84, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Morris Yandell, in Spur early Sunday morning, March 23, one of the early day citizens passed away.Mrs. Cherry, who was born at Moulton, Texas in 1862 moved to the Steel Hill community in 1911 and lived there until recent years when she moved to Spur to live with a daughter. She was married to Samuel L. Cherry at Flatenia, Texas on December 22, 1892.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Spur with Rev. Doc Love, assisted by Rev. C.N. Gilbert and Rev. Hill. Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Willis, Dee Hairgrove, Raymond Cornelius, Burt Wadell, Will Stacy and E.A. Bailey.
Flower bearers were Reba Senn, Brigetta Senn, Katrina Senn, Dorris and Olamae Cornelius, Ineta Flud, Ophelia Cherry and Jerry Wadell.
