Elvin Lee Caraway, Sr. was born in 1885 and moved to Peacock, Texas with his family. There he met and later married Minnie Brannen who was born in Holly, Texas. She attended State Teachers College in Huntsville and taught school for two years in Peacock. "E.L." and Minnie lived in Peacock where he was a pharmacist and a farmer. In 1917 they moved to Spur and owned several car dealerships over the years, namely, Spur Motor Company and Caraway Motor Company with offices in Spur Lubbock and Odessa. E. L. died June 1, 1961 and Minnie died September 18, 1965. Both are buried in Spur. They had three children:

- Thelma Caraway, born August 3, 1908 in Peacock, Texas. She attended school in Spur, Carburdette College and Texas Tech. While at Texas Tech she met and later married Cash C. Wilemon of Stamford. They were married on May 26, 1929. They retired in Lubbock and Cash died March 5, 1984. They had one son, Cash Caraway Wilemon, born in 1932.
- Lois Caraway was the second child of E.L. and Minnie Caraway. She was born December 28, 1909 and died March 14, 1912.
- Elvin Lee (Bill) Caraway, Jr. was born February 6, 1920 and died May 8, 1973. He attended Spur Schools and graduated from Texas Christian University. Shortly after graduation he returned to Spur to go into business with his father. He also served in the United States Air Force. He is buried in Spur. Bill had 3 children.

Mrs. Minnie Bell Caraway, 78, was buried here Monday following funeral services at 2:30 p.m. in the Church of Christ. Holland Boring, minister officiated, assisted by Rev. W.D. McReynolds, pastor of the First Methodist Church.Mrs. Caraway died September 19, in a Crosbyton Hospital. She had been a resident of Spur since 1917, and a member of the Church of Christ. Her husband, E.L. Caraway, died in 1961.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Cash Wilemon, Lubbock; one son, E.L. Caraway, Jr., Spur; one sister, Mrs. Riley Wooten, Spur and one brother, Fletcher Brannen, Peacock. Four grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers included Rob Simmons, A.C. James, Richard Westfall, O.L Kelley, Jerry Ensey, Marion Jordan; honorary pallbearers included E.S. Lee, Ned Hogan, and John Nichols.
Interment was in Spur Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, June 3 for Elvin Lee Caraway, Sr., 76. Mr. Caraway died at his home following a brief illness.Born in Mills County, Texas, he was in the drug business at Peacock from 1909 to 1917. He came to Spur in 1917 where he pit in an automobile agency. He maintained that business until his retirement and was associated with his son in the newly opened Caraway Motors and Implement Co. in Spur.
He married the former Minnie Brannen in Aspermont in 1907. The couple made their first home at Peacock. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Services were conducted by church pastor, Rev. John Floyd, he was assisted by Vernon Williams, minister of the Spur Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Cash Wilemon, Lubbock and a son, Elvin L. Caraway, Jr., Spur; one sister, Mrs. J.B. Cockrum, Goldthwaiter. Three grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
Pallbearers included J.D. Taylor, Lester Garner, Walt Jimison, Pike Nichols, Archer Powell and Cotton James.
Interment was in Spur Cemetery.
