Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church for Mrs. Hermina Cantu, 60. Father Roland Buxkemper officiated. A housewife, Mrs. Cantu died at her home here on Feb. 24. She had been a resident of Spur since 1943. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Sam Cantu, of Spur; three sons, Senon Cantu, Nacogdoches; Sam Cantu, Jr., Olton; and Eddie Cantu, Jarrell; four daughters, Lillie Sifuentes, Olton; Alice Garcia, Spur; Sally Pena, Floydada; Hermina Vasquez, Jarrell; one sister, Paula Guajardo, Los Angeles, CA; one brother, Edwardo Martinez, Los Angeles, CA. Pallbearers included Juan Ortiz, Santos Vasquez, Rudy Ernandez, Marin Garcia, Manuel Gonzales, and Carlos Meza.Interment was in Spur Cemetery.

Rosary for Samuel Garcia Cantu, 84, of Spur was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 1988, in Spur´s St. Mary´s Catholic Church with the Rev. Roland Buxkemper, pastor of Lubbock´s St. Joseph´s Catholic Church officiating.Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 1988, in the church with the same officiant.
Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
He died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 1988, in Lubbock´s Methodist Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born in San Benito and moved to Dickens County in 1942. He married Ermina Martinez on April 16, 1927, in San Benito. She died in 1968. He was a farm laborer and a Catholic.
Survivors include two sons, Senon and Eddie, both of Bryan; four daughters, Minia Vasquez of Bryan, Lillie Sifuentes of Olton, Sally Garcia of Ralls and Alice Garcia of Spur; 47 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.
