Mrs. Ellen Byrd, 103, Dies Friday

Mrs. Ellen Byrd died October 25, 1957 at the Spur Convalescent center.

Mrs. Byrd was born October 1, 1854 in Arkansas. She was married to V.A. Byrd at Florence, Alabama and they moved to Dickens County in 1923. She joined the Baptist Church July 1, 1897.

Services were held Octobet 26, at 4 p.m. in Campbell´s Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.E. Lee, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church officiating assisted by Rev. John Floyd, pastor of First Christian church.

Pallbearers were Clyde Tilley, Herman Bostick, Sam Blair, Earnest Seals, D.E. Bloodworth and Gene Roberts.

Survivors include seven children, Mrs. Mollie Hickman, Meadow; Mrs. Viola Roberson, Spur, Manuel and C.L. of Laurenceburg, TN; G.C. of Eastland, L.E. of Lubbock and O.E. of Slaton. One sister, Mrs. Bessie Smith of Oklahoma; thirty-four grandchildren, fifty-nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Interment was in Spur cemetery with Campbell´s in charge of arrangements.
