Rubye Bumpus

Services for Rubye (Rucker) Bumpus, 87, Idalou and formerly of Spur, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at graveside in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Rev. George Price, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Bumpus died November 20, at 9 a.m. in Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, following a lengthy illness. Born in Erath County on July 9, 1900, she married Wilkey M. Bumpus in Spur in 1929. He died in 1950. She lived in Spur from 1926 to 1939 where she and her husband operated a cafe. She also worked as a telephone operator for 10 years.

She lived for about 40 years in DeLeon, but had recently moved to Idalou. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She was a sister of the late Monk Rucker, Spur. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilkey Ann, in 1933.

Survivors include one sister, LaVerna Bethune, Athens; a nephew, John Rucker, Idalou and several great nieces and nephews.

Campbell Funeral Home, Spur, was in charge of arrangements.
