One Killed, One Injured by Lightening Friday Noon
Olan (Bill) Browning was instantly killed and his brother Sam Browning, was critically injured Friday at noon when they were struck by lightening about 50 yards from their home on Lower Red Mud. The two sons were returning from across their farm when a cloud came up and it is supposed that they were driving some little chicks to shelter when the lightening struck.A call was sent to Spur immediately by relatives and S. Buter, Olda Harrington, Bill Putman, Chas Kearney and Dr. John T. Wylie went to the Red Mud home. The men were brought to Spur and Sam Browning was placed in the Spur Hospital where his condition was serious for a time. He improved rapidly however and was released from the hospital Wednesday. Bill Browning was prepared by Campbell Undertakers for burial and the body removed to the home of Chas. Kearney for services Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in charge of Dr. M.F. Ewton, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Spur cemetery in charge of Weber Williams.
The party arrived in Spur about 8 p.m. being delayed by heavy rains and muddy roads.
Mr. Browning is survived by his wife, father, Ethell Browning, and four brothers. Mrs. Browning is a sister of Chas. Kearney.
