Obituary

Jim B. Brown of Kalgary died of a heart attack Sunday morning, Feb. 6 at 3 o´clock in the home of a nephew, Harvey Smith of Anton, Texas where he and Mrs. Brown had gone for a visit. It is reported that early in the evening before retiring he remarked to his wife that he felt he might have a heart attack. The Rix morticians of Lubbock were called and took charge of the body preparing it for burial. The body was then taken to the Brown home at Kalgary and brought from there to the First Baptist Church in Spur Monday. Rev. H.L. Thurston conducted the funeral services and the music was supplied by the Rix Quartet of Lubbock. Mr. Brown was born in Mississippi Oct. 1, 1899, and has resided in Crosby County since 1914. He was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him and his friends were many.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. M.D. Myers and Mrs. E.H. Childs, and his father, J.R. Brown, six brothers and six sisters all of Mississippi.

Interment was made in the Spur Cemetery.

Services for Mrs. Ava Brown, 79, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the W. W. Rix Chapel in Lubbock with the Rev. J. T. Bolding and the Rev. Jack Welch, retired Baptist ministers, officiating. Mrs. Brown resided at 1502 15th St. in Lubbock.

Burial was made at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Spur Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown was a sister of Burt Robinette[Robinett] of Crosbyton and Mrs. Mabel Morris of McAdoo.

She succumbed at 6:50 a.m. Saturday in Highland Hospital, Lubbock, after a brief illness.

A Lubbock resident since she moved there in 1949 from Kalgary Community, she was a sales clerk for a department store and operated a concession stand at the bus station in Lubbock. Mrs. Brown was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. M. D. (Leona) Meyers of Lubbock; two brothers, Burt Robinette of Crosbyton and Sherman Robinette of Lamesa; six sisters, Mrs. Mabel Morris of McAdoo, Mrs. Kindness Duke of Lamesa, Mrs. Fay Spraberry of Clovis, NM, Mrs. Geta Wiggins of El Paso, Mrs. Marie Godfrey of Dallas and Mrs. Billie Meacham of Dimmitt; two grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
