Biography

My name is Larry Odeneal Boothe; 1 was born at Afton, Texas on December 16, 1915 to Mr. and Mrs. Homer A. Boothe. My father came to Dickens County in 1909 from Runnells County, Texas with his father, mother, three brothers and two sisters.

My parents were married in Spur on February 15, 1914. A short time after their wedding they moved to Afton then back to Spur where my father became Gulf Agent for 30 years or until his death in February 1948. My Mother preceded my father in death in December 1932. After my parents and I moved to Spur my younger brother Oscar Julian Boothe was born on January 28, 1919. He joined the Army Air Force after completing school in 1937 but was killed in 1944 while flying over France.

J.H. Boothe was my paternal grandfather who farmed about four miles east of Spur on Duck Creek. AT. Odeneal was my maternal grandfather who lived in Spur and was one of the founders of the Church of Christ in Spur.

After graduating from Spur High School in 1934 1 joined the Army Air Force serving for eight years. While stationed in California 1 met and married my wife Charlotte McVicker who lived with her parents in Cotton, California. At the death of my father 1 got out of the service and moved back to Spur to take over the Gulf Agency. After five years 1 sold out and my wife and I moved to our farm near Croton, Our oldest daughter, Julia Ann, was born a short time thereafter on March 5, 1953. Then when she was four years old we moved to Lubbock where I went to work at Reese Air Force Base. In October 28, 1957 our second daughter, Dora Carolyn, was born and then in July 20 1961 our son Larry William was born. I retired from Reese Air Force Base in May 1978 after 22 years as an Air Craft Fuels Operator. Since then 1 have done some odd jobs but mostly staying at home. We have two grandsons and one granddaughter, all of them live in Lubbock. We have lived in Lubbock for 27 years and guess we will remain. We have no future plans except to take life as it comes and try to be happy. We enjoy our church and my wife is a member of the Eastern Star which she enjoys very much. Dickens County and Spur will always hold wonderful memories for me, also all the wonderful friends and family who 1 remember from my past.
