Last rites for W.D. Blair 64, well known resident of near Spur since 1910, were held Wedneday, May 6 at 4 p.m. at the Spur First Methodist Church. H.L. Thurston, pastor, and W.H. Harrell of Hamlin and a former pastor here, jointly read the scripture and spoke words of condolence to his bereaved wife, children, relatives and a host of friends.Death occurred Tuesday, May 5th about 5 p.m. at the family home 8 miles east of Spur. Webber Williams of Slaton and Campbell Funeral Chapel of Spur was in charge of funeral and burial services. Interment was made in Spur Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Robert McAteer, Joe Long, Sterman Lee, Lester Ericson, and Leonard Wilson, and W.F. Gilbert.
Flower bearers were Mesdames Harold Blair, Clyde Latham, Loyd Johnson, Paul Stanford, Orie Smith, Leonard Wilson, Lester Ericson, and Misses Loraine Bond, Juanita Williams, and Hazel Watson.
William David Blair, son of A.W. and Georgia Ballard Blair, was born at Water Valley, MS, November 26, 1877. At the age of 21 he came to Texas.
He married Miss Alice Cozby, March 14, 1906 at Dublin, Texas. Four years later Mr. and Mrs. Blair came to the West and established their farm home 6 miles east of Spur where they reared their family of eight children.
In 1903 Mr.Blair joined the Methodist Church and was regular in attendance until this last illness prevented him leaving his home.
Immediate survivors are his wife, Alice Blair; and children, Albert W. Blair of Amarillo, Andrew Blair of Spur, Mrs. LaFay March, Mrs. Georgia McAteer of Spur, Mrs. Lucy Lee of Dickens, Mrs. Winnie Gay of New Orleans, LA., Pvt. W.D. Blair Jr. of the U.S. Army Air Corps, MacDill Field, Tampa, Florida, and Marvin Blair.
Also surviving are 12 grand children.
