Alvis Bilberry, 91, of Spur died Monday, April 11, 2005, in Crosbyton.Services were held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Smith, C.L. Atkinson and Kevin Blackburn officiating. Burial followed in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
Mr. Bilberry was born Jan. 26, 1914 in Dickens, TX to Elek and Millie Stinnett Bilberry.
He graduated from Dickens High School in 1934 and went on to Eastern New Mexico University, where he was a member of the first football team. He married Jessie Smith December 14, 1935 at Soldier Mound Baptist Church in Dickens County. He was employed by the Texas A & M Experiment Station in Spur for 40 years before his retirement. He was a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church for many years. Alvis loved fishing, cooking, playing dominoes and entertaining his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of Spur; one daughter, Jo Ann Biggers and husband Hank of Fort Worth; one son, Jackie Bilberry of Spur; two brothers, E.J. Bilberry of Eckert, CO. and Raymond Bilberry of Grass Valley, CA.; one sister, Ava Nell Ponder of Corsicana; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Spur Memorial Cemetery, Box 111, Spur, TX 79370 or to Senior Citizens South Dickens County, 210 Burlington, Spur, TX 79370.

Jessie L. Bilberry, 94 passed away April 22, 2011 at CMC Lubbock, Texas. She was born on November 1, 1916 to Jim H. and Coredlia Henderson Smith in Spur, Texas. She married Alvis Bilberry on December 14, 1934 at the Soldier Mound Baptist Church.
Jessie was a clerk at the Variety Store, Gabriel Department and Wackers Variety here in Spur, Texas. She belonged to the Blue Bonnet Club and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Spur, Texas.
Jessie is survived by one son Jack Bilberry and wife Mary of Spur, Texas; and one daughter Jo Ann Biggers and husband Hank of Ft. Worth, Texas. She is also survived by one sister Louise Wright and one brother Lewis Smith both of Spur, Texas; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband Alvis Bilberry; her parents Jim and Cordelia and a sister Ruby Bostic Rodgers.
Graveside services will be Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Spur Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 pm with Billy S. Smith and Brother Rudy Hernandez officiating under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home in Spur, Texas.
