Funeral services for Hollis W. Ballard, 25, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist church with Rev. Norris Taylor officiating.Ballard, who was the foreman of the Bigham Ranch near Afton, was accidentally shot September 3. According to reports, he had been cutting hay on the ranch. He had spotted several skunks in the field and had been shooting them from his seat on the tractor. He was found lying in the field and the tractor had run through a fence. He had a bullet wound in the head.
He was rushed to Spur Medical Clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival.
He was a member of the Methodist church and had been a resident of Dickens County most of his life. He was a graduate of Spur High School.
He married Vena Lee Cradey on Dec. 26, 1971, in Spur.
He is survived by his wife, Vena Lee Ballard, Afton; a son, Hayde and a daughter, Holly, both of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Buck Ballard, Spur; two sisters, Mrs. Sandra Paschall and Miss Donna Ballard, Spur.
Pallbearers included Alan Bingham, John Stinnet, Jr. Verlon Bingham, DeWayne Elmore, Benny Maben and Jim Ballard.
Burial was in Spur cemetery.
