Biography

Edward Arnold Bailey and Florence (Rape) Bailey moved to West Texas from near Dublin, Texas sometime between 1911 and 1912. My father was a carpenter foreman on the railroad which was built into Roaring Springs and worked on the depot. Sometime after that we moved from Roaring Springs to Plainview, Texas or rather to Running Water Texas, which was on Running Water draw some 25-39 miles west of Plainview. We lived on a ranch there until the fall of 1918 when we returned to Roaring Springs or near there for some time and then to Spur where we farmed in the Steel Hill Community. One of my closest friends there was the late Marion Jordan who attended the country school there.

My father, Ed Bailey, worked at a cotton gin as bookkeeper, Keller Hardware Store as retail clerk and bookkeeper. My mother, Florence Bailey, worked as a cook during the war years at Nichols Sanitarium in downtown Spur. My aunt, Lillian Rape, was a long time nurse there and is at this time a resident of the nursing home there.
