Services for Dora Avelar, 72, of Spur, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Spur with Rev. Geronimo Reyes officiating. Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home. She died Sunday March 30, 2003 in Lubbock.
Mrs. Avelar was born May 27, 1930 in San Antonio to Jesus and Alta Alvarez Valdez. She graduated from high school in San Antonio in 1949. She had lived in Spur since 1964. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
She is survived by seven daughters, Dora Adams and Esther Avelar both of Lubbock, Oliviva Gonzales of San Antonio, Stella Cantwell of the Colony, Grace Marie Avelar of Wisconsin, Rachel Durham of Houston, and Elizabeth Goodman of Illinois; one sister, Rosalinda Moron of San Antonio; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Primera Iglesia Bautista, 304 Burlington, Spur, TX 79370.
