SPUR SEAMAN´S BODY TO ARRIVE HERE SOON
The body of Seaman 3C, USN Jackson Wayne Alexander, 21, son of Mr. & Mrs. I.C. Alexander of Spur, will arrive here within the next few days and burial will be in the Spur Cemetery, it was recently announced.
The seaman was drowned March 7 when serving with the Navy. He was working on a powered belt conveyor loading sand and crushed stone.
His clothes were found on the edge of the barge on which he was last seen. His body was found on the bottom, 15 ft. below the surface.
Swimmers immediately brought the body to the surface, but artificial respiration and emergency first aid given by hospital corpsmen failed to revive the sailor.
Young Alexander attended the Spur High School where he finished his studies in 1950.
He returned in the fall of 1952 from 18 months as a construction worker at the new naval base on Guam, then reported to the receiving ship at Treasure Island for re-assignment.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Flavious of Spur and Lonnie of Gilroy, CA; and a sister, Mrs. Joe Franklin of San Diego.
Chandler funeral home will be in charge of arrangements here.
