Biography

John Albin and Ottie M. Lassetter, were members of two early-day families in the Spur area. Harrison and Allie Albin came to Spur from Rochester, Haskell County in 1917. They brought with them their children: Lera, John, Annis, Neil, Ferrel and Julia Mae. Each of those children graduated from Spur High School.

John Albin was born in Rochester, Haskell County. He was raised on a farm and farmed for several years. He is an ex-student of Spur High School and he attended Tyler Commercial College.

He was employed by the Spur Security Bank in 1947 as a teller and later became cashier, then Vice President and director of the bank. For a short time in 1926 and 1927, he was a bookkeeper for the Spur National Bank. John also served as treasurer of the Dickens County Cancer Society, and the Spur Bulldog Booster club, and was a member of the Spur Lions Club.

John and Ottie Maud Lassetter were married in Spur, December 30, 1933. Two sons were born to them: Leslie and John L.

Obituary

Funeral services for a retired Spur banker, John Leslie Albin, 65, were held Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Gates officiated, assisted by Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Albin died about 11:45 p.m. in Methodist Hospital, April 19. A resident of Spur since 1917, Mr. Albin was a member of the KP Lodge, Spur Lions Club, and the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ottie Maude Albin, Spur; two sons, Leslie Albin, Snyder and Johnny Albin with the U.S. Navy in San Francisco; two brothers, Henry Albin, Tulsa, Okla. and Ferrell Albin, Spur; a sister, Annie Stotts, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Ottie Albin PhotoFuneral services for Ottie Maude Albin, 75, were held Saturday, April 20, at 4 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. George Price, Jr., officiating.

Mrs. Albin died about 8:30 p.m. at her home in Spur on April 18, following a lengthy illness.

Born Ottie Maude Lassetter on March 10, 1910 in Roddy, Texas, she married John L. Albin in Spur on December 30, 1933. He died on April 19, 1973. A retired school teacher, she had lived in Spur since 1922. She was a graduate of Spur High School, class of 1927 and of Texas Tech, 1932. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Leslie Albin, Austin and John Albin, Sweetwater; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Blumberg and Mrs. Ila Johnston, both of Spur; seven grand children.

Pallbearers included R.E. Wright, Jody Wright, Lester Ball, Frank Hale, Eric Swenson and J.B. Morrison.

Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
