Biography

Harrison Owens Albin was the oldest son of John F. Albin and Mary Ann Coker. Harrison Owens Albin was born in Comanche County, Texas, and moved with his parents to Haskell County, Texas, where Harrison Owens Albin married Mary Almira "Allie Mae" Chapman. Harrison Owens Albin and Allie Mae Albin reared seven children: Lera, Annis, John Leslie, Nellie Bea, Henry Owens, Ferrel Jesse, and Julia Mae.

Lera Albin married Duane Meteer and had one daughter, Patricia "Pat" Green. Annis married Joe Stotts and had one daughter, Joan Kendall. John Leslie Albin married Ottie Maude Lassetter and had two sons, Leslie Owens Albin and John Lassetter Albin. Nellie Bea married Norman Seitz and had one daughter, Judy Fowler. Henry Owens married Juanita Duncan and had two daughters, Sally Overton and Sammye Cook. Ferrel Jesse Albin married Patti King and had one daughter, Jane Ann Ensey and one son, David Spencer Albin. Julia Mae Albin remained unmarried until her death in 1972.

Harrison Owens Albin, Allie Mae Albin, Nellie Bea Seitz, Julia Mae Albin, Ferrel Jesse Albin, John Leslie Albin, and Ottie Maude (Lassetter) Albin are all buried in the Spur cemetery in Spur, Dickens County, Texas, where Harrison and Allie Mae Albin, John and Ottie Maude Albin, and Ferrel and Patti Albin all resided.

Harrison Owens Albin, 65, resident of Dickens County since 1917, died Thursday night of a heart attack at his home on Burlington Avenue.

The death of Mr. Albin, a prominent stock farmer of this section and a former member of the Spur school board, came as a surprise, since he had been in good health, complaining of feeling bad only a short time before his death.

He is survived by his wife, Allie Albin; three sons: John and Ferrell, Spur, Henry, Oklahoma City, OK; three daughters, Julia Mae Albin, Spur, Mrs. Lera Mateer, Oklahoma City; and Mrs. Annis Stotts also of Oklahoma City. Another daughter, Nellie B. Seitz, preceded him in death by seven months. Brothers and sisters are J.J. and J.K. Albin, Spur; Mrs. E.P. Epley, AZ, W.R. Albin, Pampa; R.A. Albin, Miami, FL, J.P. Albin, Tyler and Mrs. W.E. Ballard and Mrs. T.C. Sandlin, Spur. Five grandchildren also survive. They are: Joan Stotts, Patricia Mateer, Jane Ann Albin, Judy Seitz, and Leslie Albin.

Last rites were held Saturday morning at the Spur Methodist Church with Rev. James E. Harrell, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Spur Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers were: M.L. Rickels, J.B. Morrison, W.R. Lewis, C.A. Denson, Ned Hogan, W.F. Foreman, F.W. Jennings, and M.L. Jones.

Flower bearers were Helen Hale, Frances Walton, Sylvia Philley, Neitha Campbell, Polly Clemmons, Hazel Elms, Hazel Watson, Annie Laurie Lewis, Ruth Wylie and Royce Karr.

Mr. Albin had been a stock farmer at Rochester in Haskell County before coming to Spur. He was also a school board member at Rochester, and held the same position here when the old high school building was constructed. He was a member of the board of county commissioners from 1926 to 1929. At the time of his death he was a director of the Spur branch of the Federal Land Bank. He was also a Knight Templar of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Albin was born in Comanche County, Texas. He was married to Miss Allie May Chapman on April 10, 1904 at Marcy, Texas, now known as Rochester. Mr. and Mrs. Albin moved to Dickens County from Rochester in 1917. He became a member of the Methodist church in 1911.

Funeral services for Mrs. H.O. Albin, 83, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Church, Spur. Rev. John Rakestraw officiating.

Mrs. Albin died last Thursday in Wesley Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma following a stroke on July 21. Interment was in Spur Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born in Georgia in 1875, Mrs. Albin came to Dickens County in 1917. She married H.O. Albin who preceded her in death in 1940. She made her home here until 1948 when she went to Oklahoma to stay with her daughters.

Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Joe A. Stotts, and Miss Julia Mae Albin, Oklahoma City, three sons Henry, Tulsa, OK and John and Ferrel both of Spur.

One Sister, Mrs. Peggy Heinfach of CA and three brothers; Varner Chapman, California; C.M. Chapman, Amarillo, and H.C. Chapman, Earth, Texas.

Pallbearers were C.D. Foreman, Jesse Morrison, Hobert Lewis, Arner Watson, Clarence Watters, D.J. Dyess, Lawis Lee and Rob Simmons.
