Wayne Wyatt SPUR — Services for Wayne Wyatt, 65, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. today at Highway 70 Church of Christ in Spur with Bob Martin officiating.

Burial will be in Red Mud Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

He died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at his home in Lubbock. He was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Girard. He lived the early part of his life in Kent and Dickens counties. He graduated from Girard High School in 1953.

He married Linda Barton on March 26, 1971, in San Marcos.

He had lived in Lubbock since 1978, working as general manager of the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District No. 1. He was serving as chairman of the Llano Estacado Regional Water Planning Group.

He was active in farming and ranching in Dickens, Kent and Crosby counties.

During his 40-year career in groundwater management, he received numerous honors by peers and professional organizations. He was honored as Region One Texas Soil and Water Conservation District's Professional Man of the Year.

He also won the Gerald W. Thomas Award for Outstanding Agriculturalist, the Bureau of Reclamation's Citizen Award, the Professional Agriculture Workers Award and the Texas Agricultural Irrigation Association's Industry Achievement Award.

He served on several advisory boards at Texas Tech and Texas A&M. He served two terms as president of the national and state Ground Water Officials Association. He authored or co-authored more than 100 technical and semi-technical reports dealing with water conservation and Texas groundwater resources.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; a son, Mike of Lubbock; a daughter, Lesia Oeterreich of Ames, Iowa; his mother, Robbie Wyatt of Spur; two brothers, Jimmy T. Wyatt of Carrollton and Nig Wyatt of Spur; a sister, Sharon Hendricks of Christiansburg, Va.; and four grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the South Plains Food Bank, 4610 Locust Ave., Lubbock 79404.
