Funeral services for Luther Spain, 81, Spur, were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Galloup officiating.

Spain died December 2, 1985 about 10 p.m. in the Crosbyton Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born July 31, 1904 in Fisher County. He married the former Elsie Shoults in Matador on October 1, 1928. He had made his home in Dickens County since 1945. He was a former cement contractor and also was a retired employee of Dickens Electric Co-Op. More recently he was a member of the Dickens County Green Thumb crew. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Spain, Spur; one son, B.W. Spain, Lubbock; a daughter, Juanice Brasseal, Midland; one brother, Floyd Spain, Sweetwater; two sisters, Susie Henington, Sweetwater an Alva Ruth Hamilton, Rotan; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Red Mud Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
