Graveside rites for Burmer Elmer Smith, 78 year old Spur resident, were at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Red Mud Cemetery. The Rev. Victor Crabtree, a retired Baptist minister, officiated.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

The Claude native died at 9 p.m. Thursday at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Smith was a cousin of C.C. Smith and had other relatives in the Crosbyton area.

He was a retired oilfield operator.

Mr. Smith, whose early years were spent in Dickens County, was married to Lottie Feaster on April 16, 1934, in Spur. He moved back to Spur six years ago from Wink.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Robbie Thacker and Donnie Maser of Prescott, Ariz., Charlene Herren, Carol Willhelm and Renee Bounds of Wink and Glendola Carrol of Tulia; two brothers, Clyde Smith and Otis Smith of Spur; 18 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
