Services for Alvin Edgar (Abb) Smith, 75, were held January 16, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with church pastor, Dr. Genoa Goad, officiating.Smith died about 11:20 p.m., January 13, in the Crosbyton Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Kent County on September 17, 1912 and had been a resident of Kent and Dickens County all of his life. He was a retired teacher.
He married Ama Nixon on December 4, 1932, in Spur. She died July 2, 1974. A member of the Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Dickens County Sheriff's Posse.
He is survived by one son, Bill Smith, Spur; another son, Clarence (Fats) Smith died in January of 1987; five daughters, Bonnie Edwards and Patsy Condron, both of Spur; Peggy Summers, Lubbock; Glenda Stice, Paducah and Gracie Cockrell, Oklahoma City, OK; two brothers, Tomy Smith of White River Lake and Billy Smith, Stamford; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Dickens County EMS or Red Mud Cemetery.
Burial was in Red Mud Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
