Biography

The Rigsby moved to McAdoo from Arkansas in January 1934. they lived that spring and summer southeast of the town. In the fall they bought their own farm six miles northeast of McAdoo. The family has been on the same farm over fifty years. Hiram farmed with horses and mules until 1940 when he bought his first tractor. The family belonged to the Baptist Church and were very loyal and devoted neighbors, always lending a hand to anyone in need. Hiram passed away April 1, 1970. Vera now lives in McAdoo.

Jabez and Helen are their two children. Jabez spent some time in the army and after his discharge he came home and has been farming ever since. He has three children, Pamela, who lives at Anton, Texas where she teaches school. Tom is employed at the bank at Sudan, Texas. Janice lives at San Antonio, Texas and works for Southern Pacific Railroad. Helen Rigsby is married to Bill Swaringen. She has three children, Michael who lives in Brownfield, Donna and David both of whom live in Lubbock.

Obituary

Vera Rigsby Vera Rigsby, a McAdoo resident for over half a century, was claimed by death at 2 p.m. Sunday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock after a lengthy illness. She was 79.

Memorial services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the McAdoo Baptist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Leo Willard, pastor, and the Rev. Carl Coffee of McAdoo.

Interment was made in McAdoo Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home directed arrangements.

The former Vera Kelly was born Aug. 21, 1905, in Corsicana. She and Tommy Hiram Rigsby were married Aug. 24, 1926, in Lonsdale, Ark. The couple moved to McAdoo 51 years ago.

Mr. Rigsby preceded his wife in death in 1970.

Mrs. Rigsby was a Baptist.

She is survived by one son, J.H. Rigsby of McAdoo, one daughter, Mrs. Bill Swaringen of Brownfield; a brother, M.L. Kelly of El Campo; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
