Obituary

Coy Powers Services for Coy Otis Powers, 91, of McAdoo will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sep. 2, 2010 at the McAdoo Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the McAdoo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Coy passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 29, 2010 at the Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in Amarillo. He was born Jan. 20, 1919 in McAdoo to John Thomas and Emma (Syler) Powers.

Coy graduated from McAdoo High School and served in the US Army during WWII. He was a farmer until he retired in 1984.

He married Julia Faye Dean June 10, 1945 in McAdoo. Coy was known for his quick wit and telling tall tales to his grandchildren. He loved McAdoo and all the people there. He was much loved by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Otho Powers; and his sister, Lorene Johnson Tedford.

Coy is survived by his wife, Julia Faye; three children, John Powers and wife Syble of Euless, Linda Kunce and husband Adrian of Fritch and Vicki Ogle and husband Tom of Aloha, Ore.; two nephews and a niece they helped raise, Duane Johnson and wife Johnnie Rae, Jerry Johnson and wife Jeannie and Louise Thomason and husband Bobby; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to McAdoo Ex-Student Association, P.O. Box 55, McAdoo, TX 79243. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Julia Faye Powers, 88, of Amarillo went to be with her Lord on November 19, 2014. She wJulia Powers Photoas born on October 9, 1926 to Lloyd and Annie Phifer Dean in Anson, TX. She married the love of her life Coy Powers on June 10, 1945 in McAdoo, TX. Julia was a member of the McAdoo Methodist Church and was a sponsor for the youth group which she took camping in New Mexico and Colorado. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, and helped establish an independent softball team. She is preceded in death by her husband; Coy Powers. Julia is survived by two daughters; Linda Kunce and husband Adrian of Fritch, Texas, Vicki Ogle and husband Tom of Aloha, Oregon, one son; John Powers and wife Syble of Euless, Texas, two nephews; Duane Johnson and wife Johnnie Rae, Jerry Johnson and wife Jeannie, one niece; Louise Thomason and husband Bobby, one sister; Mary Katherine Clemens of Wingate, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in McAdoo. Burial will follow in the McAdoo Cemetery under the care of Adams Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
