Body of McAdoo War II Vet Being Returned for Burial
Mrs. Jewel McLaughlin of Spur has been officially notified that the remains of her son Sgt. Egbert McLaughlin are enroute to the United States, she will be advised later as to a definite delivery date. Remains will be accompanied by military escort from shipping point, where Campbell ambulance will bring the remains to Spur.
Sgt. McLaughlin will be laid to rest in the family plot at McAdoo, Texas. Sgt. McLaughlin is the first body to be returned to Dickens county.
Sgt. McLaughlin was one among the first of our Dickens County boys to be reported missing in action. At the out break of the war he was stationed near Clark Field-in Philippine Islands-where he was serving with the 200th-Artillery Anti Air Craft. Was taken prisoner by the Japanese April of 1942 on Batan and placed in Jap prison camp, where he died the following winter. His body was buried near the prison camp, where it remained until the close of the war, was then transferred to Hawaii where is was placed in a Mausoleum until beginning the voyage to his native land to be laid to rest in the soil he died to defend.

BODY OF WORLD WAR 2 VICTIM TO ARRIVE FRIDAY, BODY TO LIE IN STATE AT FUNERAL CHAPEL
Reburial Services to be held for McAdoo boyAccompanied from Fort Worth by Military escort, the body of Sgt. Egbert Bruce McLaughlin will arrive in Spur Friday, March 19 at 1:30 p.m. The body will be escorted from the train by members of the American Legion, to Campbell's Funeral Chapel, to lie in state until Sunday.
Reburial services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in the McAdoo school house at McAdoo, Brother Norville Young, pastor of Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock, will officiate.
Interment will be in the family plot at the McAdoo Cemetery.
Post Commander request all members of the American Legion Post to meet at Campbell's Funeral Chapel Sunday afternoon at 1:15 to escort the body to McAdoo.
Several business houses have signified intentions of closing from 2 p.m. To 4 p.m. honoring the dead.

REBURIAL SERVIES WERE HELD SUNDAY FOR MCADOO BOY
When reburial services were held for Sgt. Egbert Bruce McLaughlin were held at McAdoo school house last Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Minister Norvelle Young of Lubbock, officiating, one of the largest crowds ever known in the McAdoo section was in attendance.The V.F.W. and American Legion of Spur were in the funeral procession to McAdoo and furnished escorts and color guards in the closing graveside service.
Sgt. McLaughlin was born in McAdoo, August 19, 1913, where he lived all his life before joining the army. He was the son of Jewel McLauglin of Spur and McAdoo.
He died in a Japanese prison camp February 21, 1943, having enlisted in the earlier part of the war and was taken prisoner at the fall of Batan and Corregidor. "Greater Love hat no man than this, that he lay down his life for his country."
The large crowd in attendance for the last rites, the beautiful floral offering, all attest the high regard in which the deceased was held.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Jewel McLaughlin of Spur, two brothers, Clyde McLaughlin of Lubbock and Claude McLaughlin of Carlsbad, New Mexico and one sister, Mrs. Ouida Dennis of McAdoo.
Pallbearers were Dr. Billy Joe Welch, Dale Branamer, Key Neeley, Harold Brantley, Orris Pullen and Coy Powers.
Campbell's Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements with interment in the McAdoo Cemetery.
