Pioneer Area Resident Dies; Rites Pending
Charlie McLaughlin, 77, 5311 27th St., longtime area resident, died at 1:50 p.m. Monday in Methodist Hospital after a one day illness.Services are pending at Sanders Funeral Home.
McLaughlin had lived in Lubbock for the past eight years, moving here from Abilene where he resided for four years. Prior to moving to Abilene, he had lived in McAdoo for 50 years.
He was a farmer-stockman and was the first student to enroll at Abilene Christian College. He also attended the University of Texas and served as county judge and school superintendent of Dickens County in the early 1920s.
He was a school teacher at Lockney, a veteran of World War I and a member of the Broadway Baptist Church here.
Survivors include the wife, Lessie; four daughters, Mrs. R. H. Seacat, 5227 8th St., Mrs. J. Q. Carter, Gatesville, Mrs. Robert Johnston, Corpus Christi, and Mrs. H. M. Whitlow, San Antonio; a brother, G. W. McLaughlin, McAdoo; one sister, Mrs. H. G. Dendy, Crosbyton and 10 grandchildren.
