Sgt. 90th Infantry Division World War I VeteranJ.W. Jackson was born in Indian Territory Oklahoma on March 5, 1896, son of Benjamin and Viola (Widner) Jackson. He grew up in Texas in Denton and Collin Counties. His greatest ambition was to become a doctor but World War I prevented that dream from becoming a reality. While he was in service his family moved to Polk County, Arkansas and there he met Lula Barton born September 8, 1894. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Barton.J.W. and Lula were married August 17, 1920. They moved to McAdoo in October of 1935. They farmed for Mr. Gollihar for two years and then moved to the Norris Barton farm west of McAdoo. They later moved to the Edmondson farm east of town. After J.W. had a heart attack in 1958 they retired and moved into McAdoo.
J.W. died in October 1963 and Lula in January 1978. J.W. loved people, no one was a stranger to him. If he could help anyone he would. Lula loved her flowers, her family, neighbors. She missed the tall pines and green hills of Arkansas but she made a home wherever she was living. Both were members of the Methodist Church.
They were the parents of three children, Irene, born October 13, 1921, Mildred born March 1, 1926 and Elbert J.W. born October 24, 1932.

Funeral services for John William Jackson, 67, long-time McAdoo farmer, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the McAdoo Methodist Church.The Rev. James Patterson of Lubbock and the Rev. Bernard Seay of McAdoo officiated. Military graveside rites were in McAdoo Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home in Spur.
Jackson died Friday night at McAdoo. A native of Holdenville, Okla., he was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Lula; a son, Elbert of McAdoo; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Cornelius of Abilene and Mrs. Irene Faubus of McAdoo; four brothers, a sister, and his mother, Mrs. Viola Widner, Norman, Ark.

Mrs.John W. (Lula Irene) Jackson was buried Friday in McAdoo Cemetery following 2:30 p.m. memorial services in the First Methodist Church, McAdoo. The Rev. Phillip Lopes, pastor, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Rodney Brown, pastor of the First Baptist Church in McAdoo, and the Rev. Elmer Ward of Aspermont.Pallbearers were Roy A. White, Ron Davis, Gaylon Mills, Tony Hayley, Noble Neff and Leo Gregory.
Mrs. Jackson, a Dickens County resident since 1935, was claimed by death at 2:15 p.m. last Wednesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. She was 83.
Lula Irene Barton was born September 8, 1894 in Cherry Hill, Ark. She and John W. Jackson were married Aug. 14, 1920 in Cherry Hill and moved to Dickens County in 1935. Mr. Jackson preceded his wife in death Oct. 11, 1963.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McAdoo.
Survivors include one son, Elbert Jackson of Abilene; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Faubus of McAdoo and Mrs. Mildred Shirley of Abilene; three brothers, Jack Barton and John Barton, both of Mena, Ark., and Alvin Barton of Fordyce, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
