Jack Calvin Hodges, 86, passed away peacefully in his home in Brownfield, Texas, on June 14, 2011.

He was born in Shawnee, Okla., Nov. 25, 1924, to John and Dovie Hodges. He graduated from McAdoo High School in 1942 and then operated the family farm before moving to Brownfield in 1952. He worked as a butcher in Merritt Grocery for many years. He then worked in the transportation department of Brownfield ISD, becoming driver of the Brownfield Cubs activity bus, and for more than two decades hauled hundreds of Brownfield athletes and scholars across the state of Texas. He married his sweetie, Dorothy Faubus Gregory, on July 5, 1984. Jack was a Christian man who loved giving. Countless many were quick to receive a small loan in times of need. He loved fishing, shelling pecans, old-time country music gatherings, and especially antique automobiles. A member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, he often was seen driving his Model A in various parades and other local events.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Joann (James) Taylor of Decatur and their children, DeeDee, Paul and Crystal, and Claud (Sandra) Gregory of Lazbuddie and their children, Todd and Kim; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Barrow, Ila Northam and Juanita Early; three brothers, Noel, Vollie and Raymond Hodges; and two half-brothers, Claude and Pete Merritt.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
