Ward Harris was born in Sulligent, Alabama May 19, 1871. He came to Texas with his parents at age nineteen. He worked in Colorado in the smelter for a few years. He returned to Texas and bouhht some land near Hawley, Texas, in Jones County. On a visit to McAdoo to see his brother, George Harris, he met Mollie Johnson, who was also visiting relatives in McAdoo. Her sister was Mrs. Robert Nickels. Mollie was born in Limestone County on April 10, 1886. Ward and Mollie were married February 15, 1919. They lived in Jones County for awhile then moved to McAdoo in 1920. They bought a farm north of McAdoo and lived there until their deaths. They loved the farm. Mollie worked in the field beside her husband. She also enjoyed her garden and quilting. She was a good neighbor to all. Ward died on December 7, 1945 and Mollie on April 11, 1959, both are buried in McAdoo Cemetery. They were the parents of one son William Raymon Harris, born March 3, 1923. He married Dessie Mae Wallace March 3, 1947 in Spur.
Rites Held for Pioneer McAdoo Resident Sunday
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the McAdoo First Baptist Church for Mrs. Mollie Harris, 73, McAdoo resident since 1919.
Officiating at the services were Rev. Gene McCann, pastor of McAdoo First Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Henry Salley, McAdoo Methodist minister, and Leonard Dennis, Church of Christ minister.
Mrs. Harris died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday in West Texas Hospital in Lubbock. Burial was in McAdoo Cemetery under the direction of King Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
Mrs. Harris was born in Limestone County, Texas and moved to McAdoo in 1919.
Survivors include a son, Ramon, McAdoo; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Nichels, McAdoo and a brother, Lee Johnson, Waco.
